Worship

We offer different styles of worship reflecting the diversity of our congregation.

online services

At Pilgrim Uniting Church, we understand that it isn’t always possible to make it to your regular service in person. You can access most of our services and special events live streamed via our YouTube channel. You can also access our old services via previous recordings if you can’t attend at your regular time.

Sunday Services

Morning Eucharist

8am Sundays

A celebration around the Lord’s Table, this structured but informal service includes songs of worship with piano accompaniment, prayers and Holy Communion.

Community Worship

9.30am Sundays

Ministers and community members work together to plan and lead this service. Music is influenced by folk, jazz, Iona and Taize and includes songs we have written ourselves. Holy Communion is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month.

Choral
Worship

11am Sundays

With a liturgical emphasis, this service draws on the heritage of Christian worship and features music performed on the historic pipe organ and masses, anthems and motets sung by the choir. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month.

Monthly Service

Evensong

5pm Saturdays (monthly from March to December)

Held as the sun sets to mark the passing of another day in faith, Evensong is a service of sacred choral music which is accented by short scripture readings and prayers presented by the Minister.

weddings

If you can be legally married, you can be married at Pilgrim.

We welcome your enquiry about holding your wedding at Pilgrim and invite you to contact us to discuss how we can help make it special and unique.

Minister

Once your wedding date has been confirmed, one of the Ministers will meet with you to discuss your readings, vows, declarations and music. If you would like a Priest, Pastor or other religious leader from another denomination to assist or conduct the service, please speak with the Minister.

Music

Our organist and choir or soloist can be available to perform at your wedding at a cost to be quoted at the time of enquiry. You can also arrange your own music for your special day.

Flowers and Bows

You are welcome to arrange for flowers to be displayed at the front of the church, or we can arrange this for you. We can also provide decorative bows for the end of pews, if you wish.

Prepare

We offer a short, confidential counselling course that aims to help couples identify and encourage qualities that strengthen their relationship, called Prepare. If you would like to know more, please speak with the Minister.

BAPTISMS & BLESSINGS

Celebrating the Grace of God through his children.

Baptism

The Uniting Church believes that the baptism of children is an act of God’s grace. Parents are asked to dedicate their child’s life to God and to commit themselves publicly to nurturing their child in a Christian home and environment. The celebration of baptism occurs within a normal service and the congregation makes promises to support you in nurturing your child in the faith of Christ as part of our church family.

Thanksgiving and Blessing

A Service of Thanksgiving and Blessing of a Child is a wonderful way of celebrating your child’s birth. The Minister offers a prayer of thanksgiving and a special blessing, which includes making the sign of the cross on the forehead of your child. Thanksgiving and blessing usually occurs within a normal service of worship. While there is no expectation that you will be a member of Pilgrim, the gathered faith community represents the enfolding of God’s love for all people.
