The banners not being used in the sanctuary are displayed here. The banner displayed in the sanctuary depicts the current church season.
The Church year always begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and this season is known as Advent. The banner used is purple with a dove and a star. On Christmas Day the banner is changed to the white 'Emmanuel' one depicting Mary and the Christ child. This banner remains until after the Christmas season which is called 'After Epiphany' when it changes to the green 'All Seasons' banner except for the first and last days which are white. Lent begins with a purple banner with a cross and crown of thorns. Easter is white and the days after Pentecost are the green "All Seasons' banner again leading on to the next Advent.
Special days in the church calendar, such as Trinity Sunday, have their own colour banner which may not be the current seasonal one.
